Modeling and Optimal Tuning of Hybrid ESS Supporting Fast Active Power Regulation of Fully Decoupled Wind Power Generators

The frequency stability of the power system is challenged by high penetration electronic interfaced renewable energy sources (RES). This paper investigates improvements response fully decoupled wind generators (FDWG) proposing a novel generic model implementation ultracapacitors (UC) within hybrid scheme in real-time simulations plants. UCs are selected as ideal fast active power-frequency control due to their density and fast-reacting speed. Batteries combined storage systems (HESS) formed complement characteristics. Droop-based derivative-based virtual synchronous (VSP) strategies support stability. best trade-off between performance HESS cost found solving proposed optimization problem formulation. used define size controller parameters. results show how enhanced UC injection. It also shown that VSP leads faster than droop-based derivative control.
